Decision Tree for Adult Considering ADHD Diagnosis

Step 1: Self-Assessment: Do you frequently experience difficulties consistent with what you have learned about ADHD, in your daily life? Yes: Proceed to Step 2. No: ADHD is not your major concern, but you are concerned about your mental health. Consider other causes or consult your GP for further evaluation. Step 2: Symptom Duration and Onset: Do you have difficulties consistent with ADHD, present for at least 6 months and present for as long as you can remember (even as a child)? Yes: Proceed to Step 3. No: ADHD is less likely; consider other causes or consult a GP for further evaluation. Step 3: Impact on Daily Life: Do these difficulties consistent with ADHD cause significant impairment in social, family, or occupational functioning? Yes: Proceed to Step 4. No: ADHD is less likely; consider other causes or consult a GP for further evaluation. Step 4: ADHD and Autism Screening Tools: Contact myturn2talk (here link). We will send you an Intake Form link which contains ADHD and Autism screening tools. Yes: ADHD and/or ASD likely result: You will be invited to Step 5 by e-mail. No: ADHD and/or ASD less likely result: You will be advised to consult a GP for further evaluation. Step 5: Invitation to Book an Assessment: You will be invited by email to book a full assessment and provided further information regarding costs and process which include and Initial Consultation, Diagnostic Interview(s), Feedback Session and Written Report. Yes: Proceed to Step 6. No: Not ready to proceed. Step 6: Initial Consultation: 1-hr Consultation conducted face-to-face at our offices in Ringwood or online if you prefer to further explore an ADHD diagnosis based on screeners and discussion. Yes: During consultation a Diagnostic Interview is booked: Proceed to Step 7. No: Following consultation you realise now is not the time to go further. Step 7: Diagnostic Interview: 2-hr ADHD Diagnostic Interview conducted face-to-face at our offices in Ringwood or online if you prefer, to assess for ADHD according to the DSM-5TR. Yes: At Diagnostic Interview your Feedback Session is booked: Proceed to Step 8. No: Please note that no reports will be provided without an accompanying feedback session. Step 8: ADHD Assessment Feedback and Report: 1-hr Consultation conducted face-to-face at our offices in Ringwood or online if you prefer to discuss outcome of diagnostic interview and provide written report. Yes: Report & Feedback received but you would like more support. Proceed to Step 9. No: Report & Feedback received is comprehensive and no further therapeutic support is sought. Step 9: Request Therapeutic Support: Work with a neuro-affirming psychologist to develop a personalized treatment plan. Yes: If you require further support, we will assist where possible or direct you to our network of neuro-affirming psychologists for ongoing care. No: If referred by your current psychologist for assessment only, you will be invited to share your report with your treating psychologist and incorporate recommendations in your treatment plan. *This decision tree is a general guide and should be tailored to individual circumstances.
