talking to Kirsten
Kirsten originates from South Africa, where she completed her honours degree in psychology and worked in various HR and consulting roles at blue-chip companies. She was promoted to her first management role at the age of 23.
In 2001 Kirsten migrated to Australia and continued to work in the corporate arena, running the graduate recruitment program for Accenture and trained management staff in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Korea on recruitment - and interviewing techniques.
In 2005 Kirsten returned to her true passion, psychology, and furthered her studies by completing her Masters in Educational & Developmental Psychology at the University of Melbourne and went on to run own practice in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne for 10 years.
In 2020, Covid struck and Kirsten’s life, like many, changed. Dissatisfied with the process of online therapy, she decided to take some time off to recharge her batteries, with the intention of returning to her practice when Covid had blown over and she could once again engage in face-to-face counselling.
During her time off, she also decided to take a break from alcohol. Needless to say that decision had a bigger impact on her than Covid, as she soon realised how beneficial alcohol-free living really was. So much so that she could no longer see herself talking to clients without asking how their alcohol intake was impacting everything from their ability to manage Covid to parenting, their mental health, sleep, mood etc. She realised that this was fast becoming the only real conversation she wanted to have and had to find a new platform to deliver her message.
Now Kirsten sees her contribution as making alcohol-free options super available to everyone and by important a range of alcohol-free options through her company Point Zero Cellars and talking all things mindful drinking! Her vision is for every bar, restaurant and retailer to stock a really great range of alcohol-free beverages. She encourages others to take a break by using her (free) 30-day Point Zero Challenge to see the impact it has on their mental health. Finally, to honour the great work psychologists continue to do, she pledges that for every order Point Zero Cellars receives, the company will donate $1.00 to a different mental health charity each year.
